Iowa DNR surveys show good brood numbers last two years as turkey hunters await opener

Iowa hunters should have opportunities to bag a turkey during the upcoming spring season, which will begin April 4 for youth and continue with four gun/bow seasons for hunters ending May 14.
That's the likelihood, following the pattern of increased hen and poult numbers according to 2021 and 2022 surveys compiled by the state Department of Natural Resources. Hens with broods and the number of poults with hens have shown increases over five-year averages.
