Just five days into New York state’s spring gobbler season, I took the unheard of leap – actually just a small step – into Mike Cusano’s bass boat for a day of fishing on Oneida Lake.
My turkey-hunting friends were incredulous. In past years I’ve dismissed potential trips out to Lake Erie’s smallmouth factory and the prospect of 5-pound bronzebacks (and maybe even larger) in favor of my gobbler obsession.
