Commentary: What is the connection between CWD and ticks?

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) remains a top concern, not only because of its effects on deer, elk, and moose, but also because of its human health implications. One of the most pressing unknowns is just why the disease is so contagious. We suspect that direct animal-to-animal contact, transmission from doe to fawn, and environmental transmission from soil or plants likely all play roles. Now, another potential pathway is being investigated.
