Dove season provides hunters an obvious opportunity display of wingshooting skill. The doves will be there, so will the misses, which is why I go I suppose. To show the birds how lucky they are, to fly over me instead of someone else. Another might hit them.
Controlled hunts are held in District 1 and District 5 in Central and Southwest Ohio, respectively. The lottery to attend one opens in July. Several other wildlife areas provide additional opportunities with dove fields, and there’s no need to enter a lottery to hunt a dove field.
