Weather and salmon bite both hot on Lake Ontario

It was supposed to be a nice, leisurely salmon fishing trip on Lake Ontario, launching out of Oswego, N.Y., with veteran Capt. Ed Monette, who operates Cannonball Runner Charters.
Fishing buddies Terry Catlin of Chemung, and Todd Smith, of South Waverly, Pa., and I had it all planned: box out with three kings each and return home with plenty of filets, as have so many other anglers this summer, including those aboard Monette’s 35-foot Wellcraft 3300. Mother Nature and the salmon had other ideas.
