Minnesota DNR assuming oversight of state’s deer farms as new laws take shape

Oversight of whitetailed deer farms in Minnesota was a frequently discussed matter during this year’s legislative session, with the Legislature passing new laws that took effect July 1 and other rules that will take effect Sept. 1 and in 2024.
One of the changes: the Minnesota DNR having full authority over those deer farms. The DNR previously had had regulatory authority of whitetailed deer farms until 2005, when the Legislature transferred that authority to the state’s Board of Animal Health.
