Christine Thomas: Close encounters of the bird kind at little cabin

Published: , in Outdoor News

I am writing from the she-shed on the second morning of the 2023 deer season. The sun is well up and reflecting off a universe of frost crystals blanketing the newly picked cornfield in front of me. A tiny fawn has been out front for the past hour, trying to vacuum up enough harvest waste to be strong enough to evade the coyotes this winter. She was joined briefly by a cute 6-point buck, about an hour ago. No deer have been taken at the little cabin, so far.
