‘Spies’ watching Minnesota’s early-teal season say hunters continue to do well in not taking non-targeted species

The Minnesota DNR has completed its third and final “spy blind” report on hunter conduct and compliance during the special early teal season, and its findings for 2023 were unchanged from the past two years.
“Overall, the five-day experimental teal season in 2023 was again successful,” Steve Cordts, Minnesota DNR waterfowl staff specialist, wrote in the report. “The attempt rates and take of non-teal remained well below thresholds for an operational teal season.”
