Endangered whooping crane rescued from Illinois suburb

Brad Semel, a DNR endangered species recovery specialist based in McHenry, was called to Wilmette April 24 and quickly mapped out a plan. The International Crane Foundation arrived a few hours later and crew member Hillary Thompson wore a special suit that made her look like a mother bird – an attempt to lure the crane within reach.
