Dam removal project will open access on the Sangamon River in Illinois

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced it will invest $1.5 million and work with Illinois DNR to remove two dams – the Riverside and Color Plant Dams – located on the Sangamon River at Springfield.
It’s part of an effort by the USFWS to clear barriers that block fish migration and sometimes put communities at risk of flooding.
