Battling invasives remains priority as New York DEC, Canal Corps kick off summer boating season

Published: , in Outdoor News

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Canal Corporation joined together just prior to Memorial Day weekend to remind boaters to Clean, Drain, Dry their boats, trailers, fishing gear, and other equipment. Boaters are encouraged to practice the three principals before recreating in New York’s waters to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS).
As of May 24, watercraft inspection stewards, also known as boat stewards, are stationed at more than 220 boat launches and decontamination stations throughout the state to educate and assist the public in cleaning their equipment.
