Michigan Legislature approves $1M for Traverse City fish passage

Published: , in Outdoor News

The Michigan Legislature approved a $1 million grant for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission to build FishPass, a facility on the Boardman River at Traverse City.
The new facility will replace the lowermost dam on the river, which was in danger of failing, but will also allow fish passage upstream. FishPass is designed to allow desirable species to get upstream, but prevent undesirable species – i.e. sea lamprey – from doing the same.
