Volunteers from Wisconsin’s halted co-op trout rearing program have voices heard in meeting with DNR staff
They came to an open forum looking for answers as to why what seemed like a perfect marriage of a government program and the private sector – the long-running trout rearing co-op program – was abruptly ended.
Why, in late June, would the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) cut a successful rearing/stocking program with 21 southwestern Wisconsin sportsmen’s clubs mid-stream? More than 50 people, many of them upset and frustrated with the lack of communication with the DNR, showed up at the Arcadia Sportsman’s Club Tuesday night, Aug. 13, to meet with DNR Fisheries Chief Justine Hasz and Dave Giehtbrock, DNR section chief for fisheries.
