Bear and deer seasons starting soon in New York; here’s what to know

Deer and bear hunters across New York are about go afield as regional hunting opportunities are set to begin in early and mid-September.
For black bear hunters, the early season in several Southeastern Wildlife Management Units runs from Sept. 7-22. The WMUs open are in Regions 3 and 4. In the Adirondack region of the Northern Zone, the black bear season begins Sept. 14 and runs through the end of the regular big game season in December. Rifles can be used by licensed hunters throughout this entire season.
