Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County club using homing pigeons to train dogs

The Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsman’s Club in Pennsylvania is pressing homing pigeons into service to assist in the training of hunting dogs. The birds are perfect for the task because they return to their coop on the club’s grounds.
The pigeons are used to prepare hunting dogs for the American Kennel Club’s Pointing Breed Hunt Test. Originally, quail were used because of their ability to “call back,” said Frank Franci, vice president of the club.
