How fish adapt to life in large urban rivers is one of the questions Dr. Austin Happel is trying to answer.
Largemouth bass is a species of particular interest to Happel, a research biologist at the Shedd Aquarim in Chicago. In a partnership with Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue University, Happel has been tracking fish movements in the Chicago River for more than a year. The findings have certainly been interesting – both for scientists and for the average angler.
