Ohio Insider: Good news on the turkey front

Published: , in Outdoor News

Ohio’s turkey biologists say the state is finally stringing together some good years of wild turkey hatches.
According to information released in early October by the ODNR Division of Wildlife, the state’s wild turkey poult index was slightly above the 10-year average at 2.9 poults per hen in 2024.
“We’ve had four good years in a row, so it’s bringing the average (poults per hen) number up,” said Mark Wiley, the Division of Wildlife’s lead turkey biologist. “So, this is a positive thing after those rough years of 2017, 2018, and 2019.”
