Bass, walleye catch rates improve but perch rate remains flat in Michigan’s Bays de Noc

Anglers are catching more smallmouth bass and walleyes while the perch harvest has remained flat in the Bays de Noc in recent years, trends influenced in part by invasive mussels and round gobies.
Department of Natural Resources officials in October presented an update to the Michigan Natural Resources Commission on fisheries research and management efforts in the bays, where the state has stocked walleyes since the 1970s to counter overfishing in the decades prior.
