A new law in neighboring Missouri is allowing hunters there to use drones to recover wounded deer, turkey, and other wildlife this fall.
Illinois wildlife officials have not given in to the new technology, as noted in the 2024-25 Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations: “It is unlawful to take, pursue or intentionally harass or disturb in any manner any wild birds or mammals by use or aid of any vehicle, conveyance, or unmanned aircraft (drone) . . .”
Illinois DNR even went a step further when asked by a St. Louis TV station about Missouri legalizing drones to recover game animals.
