Ohio group gets backing of senator in elk reintroduction

A wild animal not seen on the Ohio landscape in 183 years may make a comeback if a group of outdoor enthusiasts and state Sen. Shane Wilkin have their way.
The animal in question is elk.
Once plentiful in the state, the last wild Ohio elk was killed in 1841. Sen. Wilkin represents more than nine counties in southern Ohio, which would likely become home to any wild elk reintroduced to the state.
