Wisconsin’s statewide gun deer kill up a tad from 2023

There’s a lot less blaze orange in Wisconsin’s annual gun deer hunt, but the 553,652 license buyers were still able to bring home more venison than they did a year ago.
However, for the second straight year – the first time that’s happened in more than 40 years – the blaze orange army failed to register 100,000 whitetails on opening weekend. DNR Deer Program Specialist Jeff Pritzl said part of the reason goes to a shift in hunting pressure, with about half of the state’s deer hunters in the woods months before the November rifle season opener.
