Illinois scientist joins in release of a ‘most endangered’ species

An Illinois Natural History Survey postdoctoral scholar joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and other conservation groups in the release of black-footed ferrets in the far eastern lands of Colorado.
Nathan Alexander, who among other things previously researched avian disease in the Great Lakes, represented the collaborative conservation genetics lab at INHS, which is exploring innovative eDNA testing from soil samples to detect the ferrets, monitor its predators and track various disease risks.
