Optimism around effort to return quail to Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is encouraged by the early results of a long-term mission to reintroduce bobwhite quail, a native species that disappeared from the landscape two to three decades ago.
The population of 87 quail translocated from other states and released at Letterkenny Army Depot in southeastern Pennsylvania last spring may be expanding based on what biologists heard this fall, according to Haley Keff, the state quail, pheasant and dove biologist.
“We captured a snapshot of reproductive success when we conducted covey call surveys,” she said.
