Minnesota’s 2025 elk survey completed, and thermal imaging may help future counts

After a year during which a lack of snow precluded the Minnesota DNR’s annual survey of northwestern elk, this year’s attempt went off without a hitch, state officials say.
“We were able to do it this year, and snow conditions were darn good. We have actually more snow up in the far northwest than a lot of places in the state,” said Blane Klemek, the DNR’s northwest regional wildlife manager.
