Wisconsin Wildlife Federation files appeal on greater prairie chickens’ behalf
Work on a 7,100-acre solar farm in Portage County planned for March will proceed even as a Columbia County Circuit Court handles an appeal filed last week by the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation (WWF) on a solar farm permit approved for Vista Solar Sands (VSS) by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.
A member of the Society Tympanuchus Cupido Pinnatus, a member group of WWF, worked with WWF leaders to draft an appeal that, in brief, charges any remaining greater prairie chickens that still exist on the Buena Vista Wildlife Area will be further endangered or extirpated by the VSS solar farm project that comes within 500 feet of known prairie chicken leks, or breeding grounds.
