Big Butternut Lake in Wisconsin’s Polk County earns its reputation as a walleye stop

The local DNR fisheries team surveyed Big Butternut Lake to assess the fishery during 2022 with early spring fyke netting, early spring and late spring night electrofishing runs, and a fall night electrofishing run.
Recent management efforts have focused on walleye stocking, limiting harvest of adult walleyes, and liberalizing harvest of largemouth bass through regulation changes.
