While the promise of a fresh sidekick is exciting, it comes with some real responsibilities. House-breaking, general obedience, and socialization are all high on the list of tasks necessary to round out a good house pet and to set the stage for having a great hunting buddy. While screwing up any issue with a young dog can be trouble later on, socialization is one that invites big mistakes.
