Seven inches of snow, a constant 35 mile per hour wind, and temps that sound like shoe sizes for a fourth-grade basketball team combined to pull the plug on the electricity in Bearfield Township, Ohio, where I live. When your house depends on electricity for heat as well as light, a power outage allows me to put what American Electric Power (AEP) calls a “plan of action” into motion.
My action plan includes multiple layers of clothing, insulated boots, wool socks, flashlights, and a fireplace loaded with seasoned wood.
