Confirmation of cougar kittens in Michigan creates quite a stir as the DNR seeks more answers

Photographs of a pair of cougar kittens confirmed to have been taken in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula have created more questions than answers, but it has also created quite a stir in Ontonagon County and beyond.
The Michigan DNR announced on March 13 that it had confirmed a pair of cougar kits in Ontonagon County. The photographs were submitted by a local resident there who took the pictures on private property. The kits were seen and photographed without their mother.
“We’re taking it all in. Right now there are very few knowns. We’re hoping to get more pictures,” Brian Roell, the state’s large carnivore specialist.
