New Cessna 206 promises great changes ahead for how Minnesota DNR does work

From more than a mile away, it can spy loons nesting on a lake below. During the dead of night, it can pick off perpetrators illegally cutting spruce tops and pine boughs from Minnesota forests. And at more than 5,000 feet in altitude, it can pinpoint a “hot spot” in a forest that could blossom into the state’s next big wildfire event.
Meet the Minnesota DNR’s newest and most impressive tool, intended to assist in enforcement activities, wildlife research, fire detection, and much more: a 2024 Cessna 206 loaded with more than 400 pounds of equipment, including a state-of-the art camera system – the MX-10.
