It’s no surprise to Illinois anglers that channel catfish are one of the state’s most popular species.
But take DNR’s word for it: Maintaining channel cat populations in some lakes can be challenging.
“Channel catfish require some form of a cavity – hollow log, stump, undercut bank, etc. – to successfully spawn and rear their young,” DNR explained in a recent announcement about a habitat project being conducted at three of the state’s lakes.
