What is the state of Ohio doing with money earned from oil and gas leases in state parks and wildlife areas?
That’s the question the general public is asking, especially members of Save Ohio Parks, an environmental advocacy organization that opposes drilling under public lands. The 2011 law that opened the door to drilling (and fracking) in parks, wildlife areas, and land owned by the Ohio Department of Transportation laid down specific rules for how those profits would be used.
