Wisconsin’s David Gunnulson helps save part of Koshkonong prairie in Dane County

Thanks to the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance (SWBA), a declining population of Wisconsin’s grassland birds is receiving permanent protection of their nesting grounds.
SWBA held a ribbon cutting event at its new Hillside Prairie Sanctuary, June 7, in Dane County’s town of Christina to celebrate land that will continue to be home to grassland birds and other wildlife. The 348-acre farmland, once part of the 18,000-acre Koshkonong prairie, was an active row-cropped farm for five generations until David Gunnulson changed to more ecological hay farming.
