Drifting along Minnesota’s Driftless Region makes for great kayak fishing

My jerkbait skipped across the turbid water as I cast into a well-known river in the Driftless Region of southeastern Minnesota. The lure came to rest under a low-hanging limestone shelf, and I let it float for a moment before twitching it ever so slightly.
My cast was intentional. A brilliant morning sun pierced the water, prompting fish to seek refuge in any shade offered by rock ledges and overhanging riverbanks and trees. Then, the water erupted as a chunky smallmouth bass inhaled my lure.
