“Poach and Pay,” an ongoing research project commissioned by the Boone and Crockett Club, suggests that only about 4% of poaching incidents across the U.S. are uncovered or reported.
In other words, 95% of crimes involving hunting and wildlife are ever brought to light. Criminologists refer to undetected crimes as the “Dark Figure,” and in the case of poaching, the lost fines and costs related to replacing wildlife is put at $1.4 billion each year.
