DNR, Michigan State University studying public use of Michigan’s state game areas

Michigan’s state game areas (SGAs) are rich in tradition. For many people, this is where they were introduced to hunting, and for many more, this is where hunting memories are made and passed down through generations.
However, as interest in hunting declines and participation in non-traditional outdoor activities increases, there’s growing demand for SGAs to support activities like bicycling, hiking, running, etc…, introducing the potential for conflict – especially during hunting seasons. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like to know if these two user groups can coexist and are looking to a study led by Michigan State University’s (MSU) Department of Community Sustainability for insight.
