A young black bear collared by biologists from the Ohio DNR’s Division of Wildlife in the spring of 2024 met a sad end on a back road in western New York in August.
The 2- to 4-year-old bear was found road-killed on Aug. 18 in Chautauqua County. Its electronic collar was returned to Ohio for further evaluation, according to wildlife biologist Katie Dennison. Nicknamed the “Tri-State Bear,” the young bruin’s collar revealed a pattern of wandering.
