“If you’re fishing anywhere in a public place, in water pretty much anywhere in the United States, Dingell-Johnson probably contributed to it,” said Rob Shane, public affairs manager for the American Sportfishing Association.
“It is the cornerstone of the American fisheries model,” Shane said. “It’s quite literally the bedrock.”
The Dingell-Johnson Act is essentially a self-imposed excise tax dreamed up by the fishing industry. Its impact over the past three-quarters of a century is massive.
