Pink salmon caught by New York angler not a record after all

Changes to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Angler Achievement Awards Program made in 2024 came a year too early for a Herkimer County angler who regularly fishes the Salmon River, near Pulaski in Oswego County.
According to a DEC spokesperson, the agency received a report of an angler inquiring about the identification of a 6.5-pound salmon he had caught from the Salmon River on Aug. 30. The angler, Cliff Chamberlan, thought he might have caught a rare pink salmon.
