Lake Erie’s Western Basin perch fishing has been tough despite high abundance

For anglers who heeded the Ohio Division of Wildlife’s advice to target “Erie Gold” in the Western Basin after the surface temperatures climbed over 75 degrees and reduced spiny water flea densities, there have only been a few brief windows of opportunities when the perch have cooperated by feeding on shiners offered as bait – even after surface temperatures exceeded 80.
