Growing up in northwest Ohio, I looked at what the adult hunters carried, often it said something about how serious they were. If you had the means, or if you simply lived to hunt, somehow you would find a way to buy one.
Not just any shotgun, a “Recoil Operated Firearm.” That is how it was described on the patent application. The common names reflected the era and geographic location you were in: Browning, Automatic Five, Auto-5, A5, or Humpback.
