Town of Drummond wrangling with Wisconsin DNR over release of water into trout stream

The lack of rainfall in northwest Wisconsin has resulted in a weather classification of “abnormally dry,” with the impacts being felt on lakes and rivers throughout the region.
Bayfield County’s 97-acre Drummond Lake is one such lake. Area residents are concerned because the DNR is mandating a minimum water flow through the Drummond Lake dam. This is due to a state statute mandate that 25% of the water any dam holds back must be released downstream to protect aquatic life. According to town officials, that is questionable logic in this situation.
