Black River Wild Forest extends over four New York counties

When it comes to land classifications, Wild Forests in the Adirondacks and Catskills tend to be more accessible and thus more people-friendly than those classified as Wilderness. But that does not necessarily mean that a Wild Forest is any less remote.
That could be the case with the 127,135-acre Black River Wild Forest, in the southwest corner of the Adirondack Park, near the popular community of Old Forge.
