Ohio’s 2025 turkey poult index a tick below average

Before you have adult gobblers to hunt in Ohio, you must first have baby gobblers being “mothered” by adult hens months before the season.
And the Ohio Division of Wildlife built a long time ago an annual summer survey of wild turkeys. Volunteer contributors are asked to participate during the green days of June and July to provide the agency with the number of hens, adult birds – and especially the number of poults they see and which county township.
