As a scattered flock of turkeys called and approached from the hollow below, I was faced with a choice: Do I risk moving to brush off the dozen or so ticks crawling up my pants, or do I stay still and let them wander as the birds get closer?
It’s not an easy decision considering the diseases that can be transmitted by ticks, but each fall in the turkey woods such encounters are the norm.
