Bobcats, because of their shy, reclusive behavior, cause many people to think they’re a rare wildlife species, although when wildlife agencies throughout the northern tier of states evaluate their status, they’re finding bobcats are thriving.
Being habitat generalists, they can occupy a wide range of habitats from rural to suburban areas. Throughout the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region, population densities vary, but overall their population is better than it’s been in decades.
