New York’s ice anglers maximize earliest start in years

Lake Luzerne Town Supervisor Gene Merlino was surprised but excited to see ice fishermen on Lake Luzerne on Dec. 6, the earliest he could recall there being fishable ice on the southern Adirondack lake in years.
“It was great to see. Maybe we are going to get a real winter,” he said.
