Running into the depths of a box canyon, I figured I could cut off the screaming bull in a saddle between two ridges on the opposite side of it.
Nearing the top, I heard him cut loose again. As I crested the hill, I knew I had only minutes left to cover the ground before he would pass through the saddle and disappear into the heavy timber, where he would lie the rest of the day.
