Bruce Nelson of Hastings waited more than six decades for a chance at harvesting a prized Michigan elk. His patience finally was rewarded in 2025 when he drew an antlerless tag and made the most of his opportunity during the December elk hunt period.
“I shot a nice big cow elk on the first day of the nine-day hunt,” Nelson told Michigan Outdoor News. “I’ve been trying to get an elk license (in Michigan) since 1964 and I applied every year I could. It was a 61-year journey.”
