Legislation to open mining near Minnesota’s Boundary Waters moves to Senate after House vote

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 214 to 208 on Wednesday afternoon in favor of legislation that would reverse a 20-year Biden-era ban on mining near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
The 20-year withdrawal from 2023 removed 225,000 acres in the Superior National Forest in the Rainy River watershed near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from new mining.
